Poker Walk
Enter our first ever Poker Walk with a minimum $10 donation and you’ll receive 10% off your check at the Grill (offer good on 8/14/10 only). 100% of the proceeds will go to the Green Valley Firefighters Association’s local charities. We will award one $100 grand prize winner (a QC gift card). If you’re interested in the Poker Walk, sign up at the Concierge desk, make your donation (CASH or CHECK ONLY – PAYABLE TO GVFFA) and pick up your registration packet. The Poker Walk will consist of 5 checkpoints—all within easy walking distance of the Madera Clubhouse. One entry per person. We can only take 120 people for the poker walk, but all donations are welcome. Complete instructions for the Poker Walk are shown at the bottom of this page.
Food & Drink
Starting at 5:30pm, we will have a food booth set up in the Clubhouse parking lot with BBQ chicken or BBQ beef sandwiches, chips or coleslaw for $6. Cash bar opens at 5:30pm.
Isabella’s Ice Cream Truck
This beautiful 100% electric 1927 Ford Model-T Depot Hack will be in the Clubhouse parking lot selling Haagen Dazs ice cream, sorbet and yogurt treats.
Free Car Show
Wayne Potter and the Santa Cruz Valley Car Nuts, as well as other car enthusiasts, will be here for a car show at 6pm in the Clubhouse parking lot.
Live Music
Enjoy free entertainment and dancing under the stars with live music provided by the Rusty Zippers from 6pm-9:30pm in the Clubhouse parking lot.
50/50 Raffle
Tickets will be available for purchase – 50% of the proceeds will go the Green Valley Firefighters Association’s local charities.
Free Star Gazing Party
Brought to you by the Sonora Astronomical Society, star gazing will begin at approximately 8pm on the driving range behind the Clubhouse. Star Party Etiquette is posted on the bulletin board in the Clubhouse.
August is also a great time to view the Perseid meteor showers. Peaking on August 12th this year, these meteors can be seen with the naked eye.
Poker Walk Instructions
A $10 minimum donation buys one ticket for one poker hand. Only one hand per person allowed. (One hand consists of the 5 playing cards that you draw—no additional cards will be available).
Each ticket has 5 poker hands pictured on the bottom—these will be hole-punched when you draw your poker card at each of the following designated checkpoints at the time specified (look for the “POKER WALK CHECKPOINT” sign at each location):
Checkpoint #1—The Grill hostess stand (ONLY between the hours of 4- 6pm)
Checkpoint #2—Madera Clubhouse Main Bar (6-8pm)
Checkpoint #3—BBQ Food Booth in the Madera Clubhouse parking lot (6-8pm
Checkpoint #4—Zinc Room (library) inside the Madera Clubhouse (6-8pm)
Checkpoint #5—Star Party on the driving range behind the Clubhouse (6-8pm)
Each ticket is also marked with a Group number (A, B, C, etc.). When you get to a checkpoint you will draw from a stack with the corresponding group number. This insures that each group of 10 people will be playing with one complete deck of cards.
YOUR PLAYING CARD WILL BE IN A SEALED ENVELOPE. DO NOT OPEN IT. IF AN ENVELOPE HAS BEEN OPENED WHEN YOU ARRIVE AT THE JUDGING TABLES, YOU WILL BE DISQUALIFIED FROM PLAYING.
At 8:00pm we will begin judging in Crystal Ballroom #3 of the Madera Clubhouse. We will have round tables set up for each group. All “A’s” will sit at the “A” table, and so on. Once everyone is seated, the judge for your table will instruct you to open your envelopes and show your cards. The person with the high hand at each table will remain in place. As soon as all groups have played their cards, the winners at each table will compete until a final winner is determined. In the event of a tie, the remaining players will draw for the high card until the final winner is determined.
A $100 QUAIL CREEK GIFT CARD will be awarded to the final winner as soon as he/she has been determined.
Included with your registration packet: (1) ticket for the poker walk (which will also entitle you to a 10% discount off your check at the Grill on 8/14/10 only), poker walk instructions, a chart showing poker hand rankings, and a list of the evening events.
